The Magic of Christmas Now I Have Children

Christmas magic has come full circle from being a child to having my children and it’s set to get even more exciting as the three year old understands this year.

Having the boys has, for me, brought back the magic of Christmas. The wonder in the air. The taste that anything is possible if you just believe.

Gone are the heady days of the Christmas party, the dreadful hangovers, the whole said what to who (and the rest). Gone are the days of going out on Christmas Eve on the lash. Gone are the days of lazily waking up on Christmas morning, opening presents and getting stuck into the chocolate tin.

In their place is a different kind of magic. A real magic not just an alcohol haze. The magic of Christmas. There is no magic of Christmas like the magic of Christmas with children.

This year instead of sloping off to the pub we will be snuggling down with hot chocolate and The Night Before Christmas as the final book in our book advent.

Christmas Book Advent

We will be tucking the boys up in bed (and asking Santa for a full night’s sleep!) leaving out our carrot and mince pie before rushing down to the airport to pick my mum up as she lands at 7:30pm.

This year, instead if screaming Christmas songs at the top of our voices in a crowded pub, we will have songs playing as we set up for the morning, briefing my mum that she has to be up and hiding before us as she is a present from Santa.

This year, we are bringing the magic of Christmas to life.

The empty Santa sacks magically filling. The carrot bitten by Rudolph. The half eaten mince pie.

I may even do Santa snow footprints with flour.

Waking up at 6am to big screaming cuddles in bed. CHRISTMAS IS HERE.

Opening Presents

The excitement in the air. Ripping open of presents. The excitement at new toys.

The playing with the new toys. Visiting friends. Speaking with family. Sending good wishes, Christmas joy.

Yes. Christmas has changed from the boozed up parties of our younger days.

But now? Now we really do have the magic of Christmas.

Because the magic of Christmas truly is seeing it through a childs eyes.

I’m literally so excited about this christmas that I could burst!! I’ve always loved this time of year but it’s so special now with a child. Toddler is probably the same as Elliot in that this is the first year he’s properly properly understood it and got excited about it!! xx

Ahhh – I remember it well. Your post brought back fond memories of Christmas when my kids were little. Christmas is so magical with little kids. My one bit of advice is ‘Make the most of Christmas with the kids as they grow up far too quickly’ – blink and you will have missed the magic!!!
