Review & Giveaway; Nursery Thermometer from ETI

There is nothing sweeter than a pair of boys, clean and fresh from the bath, in a pair of pyjamas ready for bed. The problem I was having was what to dress them in at bedtime.

The temperature of our bedroom wasn’t really something I’ve given much thought to. If I was cold I’d snuggle up under my duvet, if I was hot I would kick them off.

And then I had the boys and with them the increased worry and obsession over everything. From room temperature to sleeping bags. More clothes or less clothes. Is the room too warm or too cold? Is the BABY too warm or too cold?

Overheating is considered a risk factor for SIDS according to various experts from around the world. It’s also something that we have a modicum control over as we can modify the environment to suit, namely by adapting what they wear to suit the room temperature.

But how do you know what the room temperature is?

In the UK we had fluctuations from the heating going on and off, in Dubai it’s the air con. The control panel might say it’s cooling the room down to 23degrees but is it really?

For peace of mind we use a nursery thermometer from ETI with a large digital display telling us the exact temperature and humidity of the room. It really does give us peace of mind that we are dressing him right for the room temperature. As well as confirming that our air con unit is actually cooling the room down to the temperature that it saying it is on the control.

Back to the dressing for sleeping, I follow the guide one more layer than myself, but for a more comprehensive guide I follow Barycentre UK medically approved guides on dressing a baby when it we have a warm summer or a cold winter.

As an ‘ex’ mum I dressed all mine in a simple baby grow, now as a Grandma and having looked after little ones, my daughter tells me to do what I did, now waiting for another Grandchild to be born, unless something has changed it would be the same, baby grow and thin layers of bedding so you can take off or add depending on the room temperature.

when my children were babies they went to sleep dressed in babygrows and with a baby quilt over them, which had to be tucked under the mattress so it did not move during the night. And the babies slept on their tummies, which was accepted practice back then. My granddaughter now sleeps in a babygrow and sleeping bag, and on her back. I worry that her arms will get cold but my daughter says this is what she’s been told to do by the health visitor so it’s definitely a case of Nana doesn’t know best!
