It’s a Bing Thing – The New Bing Bunny Magazine

Last week we had a rather hectic trip around the South of England after landing back in the country from a whirlwind visit with friends in Dublin. One of the things about living abroad is that when you get chance to get home you need to bomb around to see everyone. Travelling has taken it’s toll on my little people, with an overdose of screen time. Luckily waiting back at Grandmas house was a special delivery for the biggest little man in my life in the form of the Bing Bunny magazine.

Bing Bunny

Cue much excitement from himself, as I’ve said before he LOVES magazines, all magazines.  Even princess ones that the man in the shop thinks he shouldn’t buy but that is a different story.

One magazine to take away the pain of no screen time.  He was delighted, I was apprehensive because sometimes the magazines are filled full of nothing which makes me feel like I’ve just wasted a fiver.  Luckily for both of us I was wrong.

From a robust cover, which in itself is an activity to complete with your little Bingster to a theme being followed throughout the magazine helping keep the flow and rhythm we had a great time…..

Opening the magazine you are greeted with the chance to colour Bing and Flop, before they lead you on your way through a variety of activities designed with the Early Years curriculum in mind, from discovery, to traditional literacy and maths, to creativity.  All suitable for pre-school aged children.

A range of activities greet you, all relatable to the playing outside theme, all suitable for the attention span of a three year old which lets face it, is often about 3 seconds.

We’ve had a blast sticking the stickers in the garden, hopping round like a frog, using different fruits and vegetables to print a paint garden, and reading the story multiple times.

One of my favourite activities was the alphabet poster, which contained the first 6 letters of the alphabet with the appropriate Bing characters, A is for Amma, B is for Bing (obvs), as well as the back of the poster having a trace the number activity.

The Big One hates all things pen related, much preferring to run and jump and scribble than follow lines, something which I am worried about as he heads to a more academic learning environment in September.  The reason why he got on so well with the Bing activity wasn’t just the promise of being able to stick a sticker when he had completed the number, but that each number had a character attached doing a different activity.  So for number 1 we had Bing hopping, turns out the Big One has inherited my balance skills….

Time for some story reading, with two typical Bing Bunny stories, one about finding a frog in the garden and the other from an episode of Bing I have watched many times “Potato” about Nosey the potato, filled with standard Bing sayings making the stories easily recognisable for little ears.

Then of course there are the special free gifts, the pinnacle of all magazines.  Keeping to the playing outside theme with a small gardening set with a nod to the froggy story with a frog squirter, which luckily for me the Big One hasn’t realised squirts water.  He has however watered my feet with the watering can to “help me grow”

All in all, a week in and we haven’t finished with the magazine yet. Each day we find something new to do, another activity to complete, a sticker to stick, a story to be read again (and again, and again) priced at £3.99 you really are getting value for money with a quality magazine.

Ahhh now I know why Elliot always talks about nosey the potato when we go shopping….I was thinking, who the bloody hell is nosey! E loves magazines too, he spends ages sticking all the stickers on their places. I agree, some mags are utter poo aren’t they. Generally you can’t go wrong with the bbc related ones! X
