Living Arrows 7/52 – weekend vibes in Qatar

“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth”
Kahlil Gibran

This year I am taking part in Living Arrows, a weekly photography project taking photos of my boys week on week, last week was all about having one on one time with each of my boys.  Something which is so important for me to do, especially with the bigger one.  The littlest gets me every day while he is at school but for my big one I need to sneak in the time and use the weekends wisely.

This week has been about new pyjamas.

Weekend Vibes

You may or may not know that we live out in Qatar.  Qatar is a small country in the Gulf and out here in the sandpit our weekends fall a little differently.

Like the majority of the Gulf countries here in the Middle East Qatar is predominantly Muslim.  This means that the public holidays observed aren’t the ones you’d expect at home, there is no Easter, no Christmas.  Instead, as a country, Ramadan and Eid are observed.  Islamic New Year.  Qatar’s National Day.  All very different to back home.

Not only that but we observe a more Muslim working week.  Originally the official weekend was Thursday-Friday, but in 2013 the last of the Gulf countries Saudi Arabia, adopted the official weekend that we currently enjoy here today in Qatar.

Yes, our weekend falls on a Friday and Saturday.  While everyone in the UK is singing about Friday Party Time we’re already there.

Party Time

This weekend was party time, it’s the start of party season for my nearly two year old as we all headed off to the first birthday party of the year.  Can anyone tell me why it’s my child who ends up fully clothed in the water table?

Better yet, can anyone explain why I was the owner of the only naked child roaming the house?!

Good job he’s cute!

Sporting Afternoon

After all the party vibes you think we’d head home, chill out and munch on birthday cake?  Well, we did for nap time but we’ve just become members of Doha Rugby Club and there was a tournament on.  Now I know nothing of rugby except that you pass backwards and the middle player in the scrum is called a hooker (cue mass giggles) but we went along anyway and once it was over the kids were let loose on the pitch.

All in all a wonderful, if exhausted, weekend Friday!

I bet the different weekend took a bit of getting used to and your husband didn’t turn up for work on a Friday!! I love to hear about your life out there and how different it is to here. Sounds like a lovely weekend and as always gorgeous photos x #LivingArrows

Ha ha I smiled as I read this because when they were little our boys were just the same, Joe is still always that child to get the dirtiest or the wettest he just loves to get into the thick of things x

I love that your weekend is different days to us – it’s funny how things vary from country to country. That water table pic is hilarious. There are always those ‘why MY child’ moments! x
