Cooking with Kids: Simple Butter Cookies from Busy Bakers Box

I love getting in the kitchen with the Big One.  It’s one of my favourite one-on-one activities with him, sharing one of my passions with him and watching as he learns whilst playing.  Every time we bake together I am astounded at how much he knows and learns, and continues to learn each time.  It was a sad day when all our baking supplies got packed up and shipped back, our one-on-one time in the kitchen came to an abrupt stop with the last time we got in the kitchen was to half heartedly bake a Betty Crocker packet mix with a whisk for the Baby’s birthday.  So when Busy Bakers Box got in touch to see if we wanted to review their Fathers Day baking box to make simple butter cookies for Daddy we jumped at the chance.

Busy Bakers Box is a monthly subscription arriving through your letterbox with all the dry ingredients you need to bake this months recipe theme, along with clear instructions and a craft activity, it was the little touches that made this box even more special.  At nearly 4, having lived in Dubai for most of his life, the post is a novelty for the Big One.  He is only just realising that letters come through the door, and you can only imagine his excitement at the thought of a parcel.  But the Busy Bakers Box?  Well that came addressed to him, and as he knows what his name looks like?  I thought he might burst with excitement.

Busy Bakers Box Review

He was like a dog with two tails, he couldn’t wait to tear it open and see what was inside…

Then of course he wanted to bake.  Immediately.  Even though Daddy isn’t due home until Thursday, and the butter cookies were in fact for Daddy.  Nope, didn’t matter.  Time to bake it would seem…..our simple butter cookies baking journey in photos:

At only £9 per month, or £25.50 for three months this is a sound investment to save time in the kitchen with the weighing and finding of each ingredient, all of which eats into the generally short attention span of little ones. The little touches, from their name on the outside of the box, to the ability to earn gifts the more boxes you complete with a funky rewards chart, the moustache cookie cutter included along with a blank card and ideas on how to make a Fathers Day card to go with the cookies. We had a great, rainy, afternoon making them. And although the husband hasn’t actually been able to sample them for Fathers Day – we did show him them on Skype, before scoffing the lot!  It’s the thought that counts right?

Disclosure: I received a Busy Bakers Box for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.

I make simple butter biscuits all the time here, one way to ensure we always have biscuits when the shops are so far away! I have to say the chocolate and sprinkles doesn’t always happen but definitely the fun part. #ToddlerApprovedTuesday

These look fab. The packs are so convenient too and seem very reasonably priced. We’ll look into these as you can’t beat a little bit of home baking. (Potty Adventures) #ToddlerApprovedTuesdays

I don’t bake enough with Monkey – I never seem to have the time! Having a box arrive each month would make me find the time!! Love this idea :). Aww bless the big one, I guess there’s a few things we take for granted that are different 🙂 #TriedTested xx
