Travel: My Top 3 Bucket List

wInstead of my travel chronicle this week I have decided instead to tell you all about my top three bucket list destinations.  Even more than that, I have asked my husband to get involved and colloborate on the post, mainly because he is the travel planner in our family, and at the risk of sounding soppy, there is nowhere on my bucket list that I would want to go to without him.

You may wonder why I am writing this now, well during a mid week blog hop I stumbled across a wonderful competition being run by Transun who are offering one lucky blogger a chance to win a bucket list worthy trip to the Northern Lights.  Given that we are a little bit travelled obsessed in this house it was right up our street to enter.
So without further ado, please see our top 3 bucket list destinations, one for each of us (well the toddler and the bump have to share)…

1. Machu Picchu, Peru

One for me…

Alongside a love of travel, I love history and one of my favourite trips so far has been touring Angkor Wat, Cambodia.  I will never, in my whole life, forget sitting on top of a temple on a hill top watching the sun go down.

After visiting Angkor Wat next on my list has been Machu Picchu.  And not only go to Maccu Picchu but to do it properly and hike the Inca Trail to get there.

Obviously not feasible until the toddler and baby boy grow up and we can leave them at home with Grandma.  Or if they are old enough and interested enough bring them along for the ride!

I can just imagine feeling on top of the world, inspired by a city that they still only have theories on, that was only inhabited for 100 years over 500 years ago.  Incredible.  You can read more about the lost city of Machu Picchu here.

2. Lapland

One for the children (and to be honest me again probably)

Christmas is a magical time and living in the desert we don’t see snow.  Ever.  So to combine the 2 and have a real, magical, white Christmas complete with the jaw dropping wonder of Santa Claus and husky rides in the snow.

Watching little eyes light up and sparkle.  Meeting the real Santa.

Making memories that will last until the children are grown up and wanting to take their children.

3. Bora Bora, Tahiti

One for the husband.

No bucket list would be complete without an incredible beach destination added.  And Bora Bora is as far away from the UK as we could get.

We have been on a quest to find the most beautiful and romantic beach we can since first getting together back in 2008, and we have stumbled across some hidden gems:
  • The Perhentian Islands, Malaysia
  • The Maldives

  • Ko Phi Phi, Thailand
  • Ilha Grande, Brazil (though it rained the whole week we were there)
But we haven’t done any Pacific Islands yet, mainly due to cost, and they look incredible.  A total tropical paradise.  Definitely something to see and cross off our bucket list, some relaxation time just the two of us…

Bora Bora, doesn’t it look postcard perfect?
So there you have it, those are our top three as it stands at the moment.
If you want to enter the competition to be in with a chance to win a trip to the Northern Lights, just write your own travel bucket lists and Tweet your post to @Transun with the hashtag #TransunLights.  Competition ends on the 30th April, so good luck!
